Easter and Cultural Activities

Two weeks ago, Check-IT celebrated an important festival in the West – Easter Sunday. We prepared a hearty lunch, there were eggs, meat, vegetables, mango, juices and milk. Yi showed us his cooking skills, and everyone enjoyed the nice lunch.

The Dragon Boat Festival is also known as the Duanwu Festival in China. It is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar.

After lunch, we had a presentation during which David introduced Easter in detail to us.

We learned about the origin and meaning of Easter. Easter is in memory of Jesus – the son of god, and we found out that Easter is celebrate on the first Sunday after the first Sunday in spring. And, of course, the meaning of rabbits (fertility) and eggs (new life). In conclusion, we learned a lot about a special western holiday. To remember this knowledge, we conducted a quiz. Fu and Kyle got the highest score and got the nice prize. Afterwards, Miss Li introduced the Chinese traditional festivals to the Dutch students. They also learned more about Chinese culture.

I think these activities are good and necessary. We can learn more about each other’s culture and increase our communication. Everyone enjoys these activities, including climbing the mountain and a traditional tea ceremony. It gives all the students a lot of knowledge and understanding about our cultures and cultural differences.

Check-IT 14 has now been ongoing for two months. I am used to and like working with the students. I also learned about western culture. Of course, my English has improved a lot. In Check-IT, I learned new software, including Balsamiq Mockups and WordPress. Furthermore, I learned more about PS and HTML/CSS. I think it is a very big help to me. What’s more, between China and the Netherlands students establish a good friendship. We can communicate smoothly and work happily together. This is very important to everyone.

In the end, I’m glad to join Check-IT this year. I met a lot of new friends and gained more knowledge. These will make me remember forever!
